Networking Pro-Tip: What Are You Missing?
Reflect, review and reframe how you're interacting with IRL.
In his book Ideas Are Your Only Currency author Rob Judkins challenges the reader to design camouflage for an urban animal (“can you hide a grizzly bear in McDonald’s?”).
Fun creative exercise but why even bother coming up with a wildly imaginative solution when the world always has their faces stuck in their mobile phones? The grizzly bear could stroll or tap dance through McDonald's - it's unlikely any patron would notice.
Seriously.
Just think about how we move about in this world - from buses to cabs to planes to well, frankly sitting around the dining room table with friends, family, relatives, lovers (the list goes on) - more often than not, we're looking at a screen, rather than out at the world.
Reflect:
What if you just left your phone in your pocket...what could happen? What opportunities may come your way, or how could not relying on it spark a new idea, or open the prospect to simply be inspired?
Think about it. Without looking at your phone.
Review:
Scroll through the images stored on your mobile device.
Did your phone have a more engaging time at a recent event than you did? If you answered yes, then repeat the pictured activity or retrace your steps, without using the camera on your phone.
Reframe:
What are THREE things you can do on your phone that you could do IRL instead?
1.
2.
3.
Now go out - phone-free - and do one of those things you've listed.
