Is it OK to... Untag Yourself from Promotional Posts?
How to handle colleagues who use your network for their business visibility.

Hi Kelly -
A former colleague keeps tagging me in LinkedIn posts about their new business venture. We worked together briefly 3 years ago, but now my feed is full of their promotional content. It feels like they're using my network for visibility without asking.
Am I overthinking this?
LinkedIn Tag Fatigue
Dear Tag Fatigue,
Not only is it OK — it’s healthy.
Your LinkedIn presence is your professional reputation. If someone you barely know is riding your network with unsolicited promo tags, you’re under no obligation to keep giving them free space on your feed.
You're not overthinking it — on the contrary, they've under-thought it.
Untag yourself. No explanation needed. But if the behavior continues and you feel compelled to address it, try:
“Hi [Name], I’ve noticed a few posts where I’ve been tagged. Since I’m not involved in your venture, I’d appreciate not being included going forward.”
That’s boundary-setting. Not bridge-burning.
Visibility shouldn’t come at the expense of credibility — yours included.
OK?
K.
