Is it OK to... Leave Group Texts That Turn Spammy?
On escaping entrepreneur support networks that became promotional free-for-alls.

Help Kelly!
I'm in a group text with 12 other entrepreneurs that started as a 'support network' but has devolved into constant self-promotion. Every message is someone hawking their latest product launch or asking for amplification and retweets. I want the connections but not the spam. How do I escape without offending everyone?
Group Text Prisoner
Dear Group Text Prisoner,
Yes — and honestly, it might be overdue.
What started as mutual support has morphed into a never-ending infomercial.
When every message is a pitch, not a conversation, it’s no longer a network — it’s a broadcast. You can respect the people and still opt out of the format.
Here’s your clean break:
“Hey all — I’ve appreciated the energy here, but I need to step away from this thread for now. Wishing everyone continued success with your launches and ventures!”
You’re not being rude. You’re reclaiming your attention. Generosity shouldn’t come with push notifications.
OK?
K.
