Networking Pro-Tip: Provide More Than A Link
Provide more details, before scheduling the meet and greet.
It's a busy, crowded, noisy world out there in the interwebs people (not to mention ILR), so a quick suggestion: if you're reaching out to someone to entice them to be part of your thing (whatever the thing that is so important to you), include a few details about your thing, not just a link to schedule a "meet & greet", as those details would be more "productive" for someone "you know is busy" than a scheduled 15 minute meet & greet on something I know nothing the f about (but perhaps I would like to know something the f about it, if you provided just a few, scant background details, upfront).
And, drumroll, here's the offending email, reproduced in full (with the name of the offenders removed):
Hi Kelly,
We’re KR and S from The FFs. We know you're busy, so we'll cut to the chase: We’d love you to be a featured speaker at our virtual Productivity Summit.
If you’re open to being interviewed for our summit, would you mind sending me a quick reply to explore potential topics for your interview?
All interviews are prerecorded so busy schedules are easy to accommodate. There is no presentation requirement, this is simply a recorded conversation between us where you help potentially 10,000+ people through your expertise.
Otherwise, I’ll paste the calendar link below so you can go ahead and schedule just a 15-minute meet-and-greet call to dive further into the summit details before making a decision.
